Wishin’ for Titian

Saw the most remarkable painting, btw. In Frari, a large Gothic church by our hotel (or maybe it’s the other way around), there is a Titian painting of the Assumption in the center of the altar. As the light coming through the stained glass windows changed behind it, different aspect were illuminated, glowing red, orange and yellow as if burning from within. I could have stared for hours, watching the dramatic moment reveal and conceal itself as the sun slowly lowered in the winter sky.

So, now I’m looking for Titians in every church we find ourselves going in. Who knew I was a fan?

I love your notes. The paintings sound marvelous. Have a great time in Verona. I hope you are getting lots of pictures.

Found great information about the painting and the church on Britannica on line and other websites. Titian is buried in the church and there is a second Titian painting there. Famous for its gothic architecture (the church).

Love your blog. Keep them coming. FYI our family is from the City of Forli del Sannio in the Region of Molise in the Province of Isenia.Zone of Southern Italy. (about a 2 hour drive SE of Rome) It is a small village in the mountains (hills). I am looking forward to hearing more of your adventures. I will be in Italy April 5 to 12. I can hardly wait. This all sounds so wonderful for the two of you. Have fun.

I thought that our family was from the South, but I wasn’t sure exactly where. Are you going there when you’re in Italy (question mark)Damn italian keyboards.

Oh, and I am getting lots of pictures, but I won’t be able to post any until we get back. It’s a long story.
