[Kicking Back with Jersey Joe] Walking the Brooklyn Bridge Funny Quiz

Jersey Joe takes a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City and takes some funny photos along the way.

The Brooklyn Bridge opened in 1883 and features a pedestrian walkway above the road bed and subway lines.  A popular spot for tourists, about 10,000 pedestrians cross the bridge every weekday.

THE 411

What: Brooklyn Bridge

Location: New York City, connecting Manhattan to Brooklyn

Year Opened: 1883

JERSEY JOE RECOMMENDS:

It’s a great, free, tourist attraction in the city.  In all the years I’ve lived here, I never actually took a walk across.  I definitely recommend that both tourists and locals do so.  Just make sure you keep right.  The bike lane is quite busy and New York City bikers are notorious for NOT obeying traffic rules.

Jersey Joe and his friends explore Crystal Cave in Eastern Pennsylvania, but come up with more creative names for the formations inside.

THE 411

What: Crystal Cave

Location: Kutztown, Pennsylvania

Discovered: 1871

Cave Temperature: 52°

JERSEY JOE RECOMMENDS:

This was a fun roadside attraction to check out.  I’ve seen the signs on I-78 advertising it for years.  The tour itself, took about an hour, after watching a 20+ minute introductory film.  If you’re in Eastern PA, it’s a great place to take the family.

Jersey Joe checks out the observation deck, One World Observatory on top of One World Trade Center in New York City.

THE 411

What: One World Observatory

Where: top of One World Trade Center

Location: New York City

Purpose: observation deck, tourist attraction

Floors: 100-102

JERSEY JOE RECOMMENDS:

This is a great tourist attraction in New York City.  I never got to visit the original World Trade Center before it was destroyed, but I’m glad this is open to once again allow visitors a chance to experience the view.

There are a couple of things to remember… first, expect airport style security.  They check everything going in.  It is exactly the same security as you would expect at the airport.  The only difference — you are not required to take off your shoes, but everything else is the same. Hats, jackets, belts… they are all coming off!

Secondly, if you want to visit the bar or restaurant, you must purchase an observatory ticket.  There is no way around this.  So, don’t expect to just ride an elevator for a view just to go to the bar — you’re paying for the full experience.

The World Trade Center area is still a construction site.  As of this post, there are still massive areas of construction and the main transportation hub for the PATH and subways is still not complete.  Expect to find many temporary walkways and partially opened entrances at this time.

Jersey Joe and his friend Jen, ride the ferry from New Jersey to New York City and chat with viewers live in this special rebroadcast.

THE 411

What: New York Waterways ferry

Where: Paulus Hook, Jersey City, New Jersey to World Financial Center, New York Citu

Cost: $4 per passenger, weekend fare

JERSEY JOE RECOMMENDS:

It’s not every city that offers mass transit in the form of a ferry.  For a different view of New York City, I recommend taking a ferry.  It especially works well on a nice Spring or Summer day.  The ride on the water gives passengers a unique view of New York City and the city skyline.  The best part is, tickets can be booked at the terminal or via smartphone app that saves a massive amount of time.  If you’re looking for a truly locals experience to the city… give a ferry ride a try!

[Kicking Back with Jersey Joe LIVE] Ride on the Circus Circus Tram Reno

Jersey Joe takes a ride on the Circus Circus tram LIVE at the Circus Circus hotel & casino in Reno, Nevada and chats live in this special rebroadcast.

THE 411

What: tram ride

Where: Reno, Nevada

Hotel: Circus Circus Reno

Why: connects distant hotel towers at Circus Circus hotel & casino

Hotel opened: 1978

Website: circusreno.com

JERSEY JOE RECOMMENDS:

I love how the executives and contractors at Circus Circus found a novel solution to a problem.  They took the fact that they had a distant hotel tower and turned that negative into a positive by adding two mechanical trams that add to the tourist experience.

Hotels and vacation resorts are everywhere and it’s up to the marketers to make each of these destinations fun and unique.  Circus Circus has done a fantastic job of that.  Most of the other hotel and casinos in Reno are the same, but this place has definitely figured out how to capitalize on many unique offerings, including their midway and circus acts, to stand out from the rest.  I will DEFINITELY be back!
